Imagine: You’re reviewing your items to be processed in the Reprocess Bank Statement Items app; you are posting bank statement items; you’re clearing open items; you are having several open tabs in your browser… and then you try to process a bank statement item that you cannot open, and instead you suddenly see a warning message informing you that you yourself are locking the item. I’m sure you’ve been in this situation before, right?

In the past, the system would not let you unlock the item. However, now, with the new SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2302 release, you have the option of unlocking the item that you yourself have locked. In this blog post, I would like to explain to you how you can unlock the bank statement item yourself, and why you need to be careful about this action.

How to unlock the locked item yourself

This is quite easy. In the situation described above, you can see a warning message that informs you that the item is locked by you yourself. The message also offers you two possible actions: a Cancel button which cancels the action and leads you back to the starting page of the Reprocess Bank Statement Items app, and an Unlock and Process button. If you wish to proceed to unlock the item, select the Unlock and Process button.

My recommendation

Before you unlock the item to process it, you should first check if the item is not open in one of your other browser tabs. If it is, and if you still proceed to unlock the item, that can lead to inconsistencies, errors, or information being overwritten that you had previously entered. Therefore, I suggest that first you make sure that this item is not used in any active processes in order to avoid inconsistencies or errors. If you do find the item opened in another browser tab, I recommend that you proceed to process it there, instead of unlocking it anew.

Go on! Log on to your system, open the Reprocess Bank Statement Items app, and have a look at your items to be processed.
