With the help of this blog, I would like to provide a high-level overview about the different possibilities to move your current SAP BPC 10.1 based planning application to our strategic, on premise-based planning tool SAP BPC 11.0.
The Planning Models
In SAP BW/4HANA and SAP BPC11.0: the following planning models will be supported.
In SAP BW ≤ SAP BW7.5x, all planning models are part of the BW software component. In addition to this, you need to install the BPC 11.0 add-on for building and using planning applications in BW4/HANA.
In SAP BW/4HANA, the coding of SAP BPS is no longer part of the BW component. If you should use planning applications, implemented with the help of SAP BPS, you need to re-develop this planning applications in BPC11.0 with the help of the planning models SAP BW-IP/PAK, SAP BPC Standard Model or SAP BPC Embedded Model
One of the biggest advantages of BW/4HANA is the deep integration in SAP HANA. Due to this reason, we support in the combination of SAP BW/4 HANA and BPC 11.0 only HANA supported planning applications. Thus, you need to optimize your SAP BW-IP planning app with the help of the Planning Applications Kit (PAK).
The picture below describes some advantages of the Planning Applications Kit:
After customizing PAK, planning functions of type Standard and FOX will be executed in SAP HANA. The planning functions of type ABAP EXIT will be executed in the lean ABAP Stack of BW/4HANA without any performance boost. If you would like to speed up your customer specific planning functions as well, you need to re-implement your planning functions of type ABAP EXIT with the help of planning functions of type SQL Exit.
As we learned before, we are able to proceed higher data volume with the help of the PAK. In addition to this, you could optimize your data model with the help of bigger ADSO objects, bigger planning functions, bigger Queries etc. With the help of this approach, you will be able to reduce the number of customizing objects significantly and you are able to reduce the time for implementation.
The way from BPC10.1 to SAP BPC11.0
For the way from BPC10.1 to BPC11.0 (we are talking about conversion), we offer tool support. Please check the equivalent blogs on our community pages.
