Purpose: The main purpose of this blog to explain the new features of pMRP in S/4 HANA 2020.
Background: As we know pMRP (Predictive Material and Resource Planning) introduced in S/4 HANA 1909 version. In this version, Planner can run the simulation for demand by using pMRP and can analyze the capacity issues as shown in below snapshot, which has been explained in my earlier blog.

New features: In S/4 HANA 2020, pMRP came up additional features i.e. Materials with Invalid source and Violated constraints as highlighted below.
Along with above two functionalities, we can see drop down with capacity plan simulation, simulation components and issues list under simulation views in S/4 HANA 2020 whereas we can see only capacity plan simulation in S/4 HANA 1909.
Materials with Invalid source: If there is no source of supply for any of the material which are part of this simulation run, those will be highlighted by system with the functionality of “Materials with Invalid source”
Violated constrains: By using this functionality, Planner can identify the constraints related to quantity for procurement, stock transfer from other plant and inhouse production. To get violated constraints we need to define flexible constraints by using fiori application “Define flexible constraints”.
This app helps to planner in defining define constraints for in-house materials, materials procured from suppliers and materials that come from other plants (stock transfer) to restrict demand quantities per time (month or week). The defined constraints are considered in the simulations. Issues are displayed in the Process pMRP Simulations app if a constraint is violated.
For example, If Planner defined constraint for material ABC defined as 10000 PC from vendor XYZ per week, when the demand quantity exceeds the defined constraint quantity (10000 PC in this case) in a particular time, the system will display an issue. It is displayed as Violated Constraint in the header of a simulation and as issue category Constraint Violation in the inspector panel.
Conclusion: By using pMRP functionality in S/4 HANA 2020, Planner can address both capacity issues and material constraints issues whereas planner can address only capacity issues in S/4 HANA 1909.
Thanks & Regards
