As I mentioned in my previous blog Industry solution functionalities available in standard S/4 HANA | SAP Blogs , several functionalities that were restricted to industry solutions are now available in S/4 HANA.
One of the most useful of those functionalities is the interchangeability of parts, that was restricted to the IS-ADEC industry solution in the past, and that can now be used in S/4 HANA. With the interchangeability of parts, MRP can together several materials that can be used to replace each other.
In the first S/4 HANA releases, unfortunately, this functionality was not fully integrated with MRP Live, which means that interchangeable materials could be planned with the MRP Live transaction MD01N, but MRP would internally use the old ABAP logic to plan them, instead of planning them with the HANA stored procedures. The positive side was that the same transaction could be used to plan all the materials, but the negative side was that the performance was not so great when planning with ABAP (note 2023766 – MRP Live/MRP Classic: Performance Information provides more details about this topic).
Now, with the introduction of the following note, planning of the interchangeable materials in MRP live is executed with the HANA stored procedures, which means a better performance for MRP live when planning interchangeable materials.
2434791 – MRP live: Enabling MRN-MRP set and Supersession chain2434791 MRP live: Enabling MRN-MRP set and Supersession chain
Note: If you are planning to implement this note, you should consider that there are manual steps, besides the implementation in transaction SNOTE.
If you are using MRP Live in EHP7 or EHP8 with the IS-ADEC industry solution, interchangeable materials should still be planned with the ABAP logic, since the HANA stored procedures are not yet enable to plant interchangeable materials. The following note should be implemented, in order to ensure that all the interchangeable materials will be planned with the ABAP logic in MRP Live:
2447435 – Remove interchangeable parts from MRP Live2447435 Remove interchangeable parts from MRP Live
