Introduction:-

Rail transport is also known as train transport. It is a means of transport, on vehicles which run on tracks (rails or railroads). It is one of the most important, commonly used and very cost effective modes of commuting and goods carriage over long, as well as, short distances. Since this system runs on metal (usually steel) rails and wheels, it has an inherent benefit of lesser frictional resistance which helps attach more load in terms of wagons or carriages. This system is known as a train. Usually, trains are powered by an engine locomotive running on electricity or on diesel. Complex signaling systems are utilized if there are multiple route networks. Rail transport is also one of the fastest modes of land transport

Rail freight transport remains in steady demand regardless of the global economic situation. The segment’s sustainable and dynamic characteristics are high carrying capacity, speed, and maximum cargo safety.

This blog demonstrates how to perform standard Rail inbound process with SAP Yard Logistics functionalities. The process flow understanding how Rail Standard Inbound process works.

What is Inbound logistics: –

Inbound logistics is the way materials and other goods are brought into a company. This process includes the steps to order, receive, store, transport and manage incoming supplies. Inbound logistics focuses on the supply part of the incoming goods or material in to the plant or warehouse.

In SAP Yard Logistics, the process begins with the following process

Creation of Yard Request: -it is a planning document to be created based on reference document like Sales order, Purchase order or stock transfer order etc.

Creation of Yard order: – Yard Orders are created when we release Yard request automatically or manually.

Basic requirement: –

The Yard setup and Yard structure need to be setup. YR, YO and YT types and number ranges must be defined.

Define the activity types within the Yard structure like parking, weighing, loading/unloading etc.

In Customizing for Yard Logistics choose SPRO >Yard Logistics >Yard Tasks > Define Activity Types.

Maintain required activity types

Execution process: –

In rail scenario, Below mention steps to be executed using simple inbound process.

Steps to follow in Rail Inbound process

Creation of Yard Request

Yard Requests are generally created using integration with systems with EWM &TM. Also YRs can be created manually.

Here I am going to tell how to create YR manually using NWBC to execute the scenario.

The yard Supervisor does a planning of that incoming rail, which is supposed to be unloading materials in the yard.

In SAP GUI enter NWBC transaction code, which redirects to the below screen. Click on Create Yard Request.

While creating Yard Request need to maintain order type as Rail Inbound and Direction as Inbound.

Created inbound yard order: – Release Yard Request it automatically creates Inbound Yard Order

Once Yard request has been released creates Yard Order(YO) Automatically,

Figure shows simple Inbound Yard order overview

In this once train arrives we will start processing by hitting start processing button in yard order and check has been done by verifying the train details after that we start processing the Yard Tasks

Execution of yard task as given below

as following tasks shows train is in gate by executing task train will move to weighing area as shown below.

once we hit confirm flag task is completed

conclusion:-

Activities

Check-in move TU to the parking lot

Move TU from parking lot to door

Unload the transportation unit

Move TU from door to checkpoint

check-out

Uses

Improve process visibility
