In alignment with the announced maintenance extensions of the SAP Business Suite 7 and SAP S/4HANA, SAP will extend the maintenance for SAP BW/4HANA and SAP BW 7.5:
Since 2016, SAP BW 7.5 has been in maintenance mode and all feature investments are being made exclusively in SAP BW/4HANA. Please refer to the SAP BW/4HANA roadmap for details.
The end of mainstream maintenance dates for SAP BW versions 7.4 and older remain unchanged and maintenance for these products will end this year (31.12.2020.) Maintenance extensions for embedded BW and stand-alone NetWeaver have also been updated in SAP Note 1648480.
Existing SAP BW 7.5 and SAP BW/4HANA add-ons will provide their own maintenance strategy to be documented in the Product Availability Matrix (PAM). The corresponding communication to SAP customers will be rolled out through the PAM and corresponding SAP notes for each SAP BW 7.5 and SAP BW/4HANA add-on.
This is excellent news for our SAP BW and SAP BW/4HANA customers, as it confirms SAP’s continued investment in our established enterprise data warehousing products. SAP BW/4HANA has a strong roadmap and will continue to be the innovation code line.
This also allows our customers to secure their path to SAP S/4HANA and be sure the SAP BW/4HANA does support that strategy in the long-term.
I’d like to re-iterate the overall SAP data warehousing strategy: to innovate and provide industry-leading data warehousing technologies with SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP SQL Data Warehousing, and SAP BW/4HANA to enable the Intelligent Enterprise.
With SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, we took the opportunity to address new use cases. The idea is not to replace SAP BW/4HANA, but to extend it in hybrid mode towards the Line of Business users.
We’re building this new functionality as a cloud offering to leverage the inherent advantages of a SaaS application, like agility or zero up-front costs. You can learn more on our dedicated website.
We have just released Support Pack 04 for SAP BW/4HANA, which delivers improvements in the areas of modeling, data integration, data tiering, as well as data protection and privacy. For example, the simplified and accelerated creation of Process Chains, directly from the active data flow object, significantly lowers your development effort.
We have another support pack release planned for the end of this year and we’re also working hard on the next innovation release in 2021. These releases will focus on the tighter integration with SAP Data Warehouse Cloud and hybrid scenarios. They will allow you to lower your TCO, reduce the risk of data silos, and advance innovations in combination with SAP Analytics Cloud and the Intelligent Suite.
