SAP Fiori Design

SAP Fiori was introduced in 2013 and has since then evolved from a collection of apps into the new user experience for SAP software. SAP Fiori is now used across solutions such as SAP S/4HANA, the SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central solution, SAP Ariba mobile solutions, the SAP Hybris Cloud for Customer solution, and more.

In October 2016, SAP Fiori 2.0 was launched and represented an evolution of the user experience for SAP S/4HANA and SAP Business Suite. Based on SAPUI5 technology (versions 1.40 and higher), SAP Fiori 2.0 focused even more strongly on users and the way they work. SAP Fiori 2.0 was the leading design for all SAP applications providing a harmonized user experience across on-premise and cloud solutions.

In September 2019, the first parts of the newest SAP Fiori 3 design were made available with SAP S/4HANA 1909 and SAP S/4HANA Cloud 1908. One of the central motivations of SAP Fiori 3 was the development of a design that could be adopted across all SAP products, leading to a more consistent and integrated experience across the portfolio. Some of the advantages of SAP Fiori 3 design include the new theme SAP Quartz Light as a successor of the Belize theme used with SAP Fiori 2.0 and the new shell header bar with unified capabilities. Based on SAPUI5 technology (versions 1.65 and higher), the new design blends better with the background, allows customization, puts the focus on the application content making it more prominent. All these results in improved and coherent user experience across the various on-premise and cloud solutions, paving the way to the intelligent suite.

SAP Fiori has three different dimensions: The SAP Fiori concept, the SAP Fiori design, and the SAP Fiori technology:

  • The SAP Fiori concept is fundamentally a simplification of the user experience relying on modern design principles such as role-based, responsive, simple, coherent, and delightful.

  • The SAP Fiori design is the visual design, information architecture, colors, and interaction patterns that are defined in the SAP Fiori design guidelines.

  • SAP Fiori technology comprises all architecture, technology, infrastructure, and programming model components required to build, provision, and run SAP Fiori apps.

Single point of entry for Business Users across Business Applications

  • Role-based simplification of business processes
  • A shift from monolithic solutions to activity-based apps
  • Empowers you and the way you work
Fiori Apps Types

There are two types of Apps available.

Transactional apps and object pages

Transactional apps let you perform transactional tasks, such as creating a leave request for an employee. They represent simplified views and interaction with existing business processes and solutions. Object pages display contextual information and key facts about central objects used in your business operations.

Transactional apps and object pages are launched using an app launcher tile. The information in the app is displayed as part of the provided app-specific content, and the user cannot adapt or configure the information. By grouping the apps into catalogs and groups and assigning them to roles in the SAP Fiori launchpad, you can control what the user sees.

Analytical apps

Analytical apps provide insight into the real-time operations of your business by collecting and displaying analytic information and indicators, such as KPIs, directly in your browser. To do this, the analytical apps combine the data and analytical power of SAP HANA with the integration and interface components of SAP Fiori.

Identify the SAP Fiori Apps

Welcome to the SAP Fiori apps reference library! use the following URL to get access to it.

The SAP Fiori apps reference library is a comprehensive library of all relevant SAP content for the SAP Fiori launchpad.

The SAP Fiori apps reference library enables you to explore, plan, and implement SAP Fiori apps as well as classic applications based on SAP GUI and Web Dynpro. The SAP Fiori apps reference library provides the following information:

  • Overview of all SAP Fiori apps available today
  • Key information for each app, including the technical data you need for installation and configuration
  • Configuration information required to integrate classic SAP GUI and Web Dynpro applications into the SAP Fiori launchpad
  • Data for previous app versions
  • Aggregated installation and configuration information for a selection of apps
  • Direct navigation to related resources, such as app documentation, Product Availability Matrix, and maintenance planner
  • Recommendations for SAP Fiori apps fitting to your needs

The best way to identify Fiori Apps via transaction code and description of your GUI transaction.

Product features will provide the description and Fiori app and functions.

Implementation details provide supported versions and technical information and business roles information.

I have identified the Fiori App (Manage Bill of materials) and the relevant Business role.

Assign Business Role to Users

Log on to SAP GUI and access to the SU01 transaction and go to Change mode and select the Role tab. Once the role added to users and save.

SAP Fiori Launchpad

SAP Fiori launchpad is a shell that hosts SAP Fiori apps, and provides the apps with services such as navigation, personalization, embedded support, and application configuration.

SAP Fiori launchpad is the entry point to SAP Fiori apps on mobile and desktop devices. The launchpad displays a home page with tiles, which can display live status indicators, such as the number of open tasks. Each tile represents a business application that the user can launch. This includes SAP Business Suite transactional applications and SAP Smart Business analytical applications. The launchpad is role-based, displaying tiles according to the user’s role.

If you know your S/4HANA system log on URL then go to the chrome browser and access it. Another option is to redirect it from SAP GUI to Fiori Launchpad (IE opens automatically).

In this example, one role contains multiple Groups and Fiori Apps. Business users must be assigned to limited Apps based on their job role in this case custom roles to be created by the Security team and assign it to users.

For functional users can adjust their Fiori Launchpad based on their requirements.

SAP Fiori Launchpad Layout Personalization

Select the user icon and choose the Edit Home Page option.

In this example, I will Hide all standard Groups and create a new Gropu with one Fiori App called Create Bill Of Materials (CS01).

Click on Add Group
