In this short blog, lets us look at some hidden features and tips for better utilization of SECATT Tool. For those who are not familiar with SECATT, would recommend going through SAP help document or other blogs already available to get to know more about the same. This tool comes in handy many a times, more from the functional angle and can be a limited alternative to LSMW or BDC Recording / Z Program. I remember using this tool even in S/4HANA.
We find there is a very nice feature to do the parameterization as soon as the CATT recording is completed. Normally, parameterization is done as a step-by-step process by opening the ‘Dynpro’ sections and making updates. At times, this could be time taking depending on the number of fields recorded; any missed out step could call for more review and retest. At one go, the parametrization can be done, and I acknowledge with thanks for having seen this feature, first in a ‘Youtube demo’, that I am unable to locate now.
There is a button available called ‘Create Parameters’ as shown in Screen 1 below and once we press the same, a window opens with all recorded parameters and values as in Screen 2. In this window, all the parameters can be updated at one go and Saved. Fields can be selected and deselected using available options. This certainly helps speed up the process and chances of missing some fields can be avoided. The rest of the process is the same and once the variant is downloaded all the parameters can be validated.

CO Masters:
In the case of CATT Recordings related to Controlling Area, we would notice that upload of say master data like ‘Activity type or Secondary Cost Elements’ to multiple controlling areas with a single file may not be possible. This is because we can have only one default controlling area set in Transaction OKKS.
However, there is a small work around, through which it is possible to use a single file for all Controlling areas and carry out the upload. Assuming the upload data is same for various Controlling Area’s, a single file can be used for upload to respective Controlling Areas. No matter, which controlling Area is specified in the file, the upload takes place to the current Controlling Area set in ‘OKKS’. Therefore, we only need to switch the controlling Area’s in ‘OKKS’ and keep using the same upload file.
Incidentally, SAP has released several notes to view the default controlling area’s set via Transaction ‘OKKS’ (K_KOKRS_SET), as a new field in the front screen. Below are some of the notes related to this Controlling area settings. Once these are implemented the Controlling area opens as a separate field. First, I am giving a link to Tammy Powlas blog that has very good information on many FICO improvements, followed by links for CO related OSS notes.

CATT uploads can also be supplemented with ‘MASS’ changes wherever feasible as may be required. There are also OSS notes available for “MASS” creation and maintenance of Cost Centers. Several articles are also available on this subject already. For the benefit of those not come across this feature, the following link should be helpful.
