You can use this function to implement various strategies when withdrawing material for goods issues and stock transfers in PM/CS orders. You configure these strategies in Customizing. Based on the material requirements entered, the system determines from which storage locations and stock the material should be withdrawn.
When planning your material requirements, it is not always possible for you to define the stocks and storage locations from which the materials are later to be withdrawn. Automatic stock determination takes care of this decision for you, thus preventing you from defining these parameters too early and restricting your business processes unnecessarily. You can then perform stock determination again to examine the stock situation between creating the maintenance order and releasing it.
Integration
Note : This stock determination can only be used for PM/CS orders.
Prerequisites
In the material master, you have assigned a stock determination group to the MRP2 view and a checking group for the availability check to the material in the MRP3 view.
You have assigned a stock determination rule either in the application (customer-specific/ sales order-specific/ WBS element-specific) or in Customizing (order type-specific).
Assign a stock determination rule to specific customer numbers, sales orders, or WBS elements in one of the following ways:
On the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Logistics Plant Maintenance Maintenance Processing Environment Stock Determination Rules for Special Stock. Maintain or create the following:
For sales order stock, enter a sales document number and item
For project stock, enter a WBS element

You have maintained a stock determination strategy in Customizing under Plant Maintenance and Customer Service Maintenance and Service Processing Maintenance and Service Orders Stock Determination in PM/CS Orders Maintain Strategies for PM/CS Stock Determination.
For more information, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) documentation under Plant Maintenance and Customer Service Maintenance and Service Processing Maintenance and Service Orders Stock Determination in PM/CS Orders.
Features
Based on the stock determination strategy you predefine, the system makes decisions on material withdrawal depending on the material, plant, and the business process.
You can use stock determination in PM/CS orders for the following stocks:
Vendor consignment stock
Unrestricted company's own stock
Returnable transport packaging stock
Sales order stock
Project stock
Stock determination is carried out when maintenance orders are created. This allocates the stock to the maintenance orders based on the situation at the time when maintenance order is created.
You can perform stock determination again after the initial planning is done to reexamine the stock situation between order creation and order release, if required. You do this on the Components tab page in the PM/CS order by choosing Carry Out Stock Determination. This is useful if you are allocating stock for high priority jobs.
You can add a component to a PM/CS order in the following ways:
Manually
Via a task list
In both processes, the system checks that the special stock information is complete for the following special stocks:
Sales order stock
Project stock
If the special stock information is incomplete or missing, an error message appears and no special stock indicator is assigned to the order.
Activities
Using a BAdI (Business Add-In), you can intervene in the stock determination procedure and change the vendor, the batch and the valuation type of the material.
If the stock determination did not find the required material quantity, the system creates a reservation for the stock type with the highest priority in the relevant strategy.
You can also initiate follow-up actions by means of a BAdI (Business Add-In).
You can find the relevant BAdIs in the SAP Reference IMG under Plant Maintenance and Customer Service Maintenance and Service Processing Maintenance and Service Orders Stock Determination in PM/CS Orders Business Add-Ins (BAdIs).
